Orthodontic Treatment

For a Beautiful Smile

The purpose of orthodontic treatment is to help you eat and speak more easily. Both teeth and jaw corrections are involved in orthodontics. It allows your teeth and jaw to function properly and leaves you with a perfect smile. Improving your bite, or how your upper and lower teeth come together, improves speech and chewing. Also, misaligned teeth are harder to clean and are subject to excessive wear and tear which may require more extensive dental procedures in the future.

Orthodontic care prioritizes oral health and good function. At Waterloo West Dentistry, our caring orthodontists offer a range of services to help you. Orthodontists are specialists, with additional, specialty dental school requirements, for the expert level of care required. Our staff goes above and beyond, providing a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and services for our orthodontic work and related procedures.

Orthodontists recommend children get an orthodontic check-up by 7. This allows any concerns about your child's jaw growth or teeth positioning to be corrected earlier or prevented. Interceptive treatments aim to address orthodontic problems early in life to prevent them from becoming more complex. Early treatment can more easily correct crossbites, underbites, extreme crowding, and many other orthodontic issues.

Treatment Options

For a Perfect Smile

There are several treatments your orthodontist may suggest to correct your malocclusion, which is a bite that is not functioning properly. In some cases, orthognathic surgery may be advised, while in others, a teeth straightening treatment, such as clear aligners like Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen®, may be best for you. We also offer orthodontic retainers and other orthodontic treatment options to meet your </span class="single-line">individual needs.

Surgery and Surgical Orthodontics

Surgical orthodontics straightens and corrects jaw irregularities. For those with certain structural issues in the jaw, it improves the ability to chew, speak, and breathe. It can also enhance facial aesthetics, but the main purpose is to improve oral health.

Aligning Orthodontics Treatment

New teeth-aligning protocols are more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing than traditional metal braces. New, clear braces, like Invisalign® clear aligners, are custom acrylic trays that fit on your teeth to gradually shift them as necessary. The trays can be removed but should be worn at least 22 hours a day.

Other Orthodontic Services

We offer orthodontic retainers, to keep teeth properly aligned, and for young children, we can work with you for an interceptive treatment plan to proactively address any potential concerns in your child's oral and dental development.

What to Expect?

Orthodontic dentistry can help with many functional and aesthetic concerns you may have. Our dentists work with you to ensure we develop the right treatment plan for you. We make sure you are comfortable, and help you visualize the results. Your orthodontist will answer any questions, and ensure you will be happy with your beautiful smile afterwards.
Oral Health

We will ensure teeth and gums are healthy, to start. Ensuring oral health is critical before beginning any work. If there are any concerns, these are treated before beginning orthodontic improvements.

Orthodontic Treatment Plan

Your orthodontist will discuss options with you, as well as the overall timeline and any other implications you need to be aware of. You will be coached on what you need to do for your treatment, especially for ongoing procedures like Invisalign®.

Monitoring and Maintenance

Checkups may be necessary to ensure your ongoing health and to monitor your progress. For Invisalign® corrections, you will be advised on how often you will need to have follow-up visits.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners vs. Traditional Braces

Creating Beautiful Smiles

Metal braces have metal brackets attached to your teeth, connected by a wire which is tightened every six weeks to move teeth into alignment. With Invisalign® or Invisalign Teen® treatments, a series of custom made clear trays are created to progressively shift teeth in stages. Both methods are effective at correcting alignment issues, although Invisalign® is often recommended for mild to moderate misalignment only. Your dentist can confirm what treatment is right for you.

Invisalign® has some advantages, though. Many patients prefer that their corrections are nearly invisible with these clear braces. Also, because Invisalign® trays can be removed, they are much more convenient for eating and brushing your teeth. It is also easier to keep teeth clean. Invisalign® is usually more comfortable, too. You do need to wear them for the required 22 hours a day to achieve best results, and you still need to have follow-up visits to monitor progress.
