Treatment Options

Oral Health Care

Your optimal oral health is our top priority. Our quality dental care starts with a thorough consultation to understand your needs and concerns, and full diagnostics with state of the art technology.

Your first visit involves a full consultation and assessment. X-rays and other tests may be completed and a treatment plan developed with you.
You will be guided throughout your specific surgery and treatment. While specific treatments depend on your situation, we ensure you are confident in your treatment plan.
After the surgery, checkups may be necessary to ensure everything is healing as it should. You will be given post-surgery instructions to preserve your healthy smile.

Surgical Dental Care Services

Dental surgery includes any medical procedures that involve teeth, gums and jaw bones. We advise and guide you on your treatment options, and make recommendations for the best outcome for your needs. Some of the procedures and surgeries we perform include:

  • Root canals to save a tooth, so it does not need to be extracted. When tooth decay allows bacteria to enter and infect dental pulp, which is the blood vessels, nerve endings, and tissue inside tooth roots, a root canal treatment is required.
  • Dental implants to permanently attach a false tooth or teeth. A metal post is inserted into your jaw bone, and acts like the root of a tooth. A dental crown or bridge is then affixed to the post, to replace missing teeth.
  • Wisdom teeth extractions when there is not enough room in the mouth, to prevent them from becoming impacted, causing pain, infections, and other issues. We also perform tooth extractions for other causes.
  • Reconstructive surgeries for a wide range of purposes, such as correcting traumas from sports injuries, falls, or work-related accidents. Soft tissue injuries and fractures can be treated, including bone grafts and gum grafts.

At Waterloo West Dentistry, we also have experienced cosmetic dentists. Our services include cosmetic dental surgery, for a range of procedures, aimed at restoring your beautiful smile. We can consult with you to determine the best options for you, to achieve the results you wish.

Preparing for Surgery

During your consultation at our dental office, you will be guided on all requirements and precautions you will need to take. Our Waterloo dentists and staff ensure you understand your treatment fully, and know what to expect. As part of our dental care, we make sure you are relaxed and comfortable. We want you to be happy with our friendly care and your overall experience at our dental office, as well as your beautiful smile at the end of your procedure.

You may be asked to avoid eating or drinking anything for at least eight hours before your surgery. You should also avoid smoking for 12 hours; if possible, cutting down or stopping smoking for even longer is preferable, as smoking inhibits the healing process and can cause other concerns. Alcohol and cannabis should not be consumed within 24 hours of your surgery. If you are feeling sick, please let our dental office know as soon as possible. Be sure to also let our office know about any oral or other medications you are on.

If possible, pick up any prescription medications in advance. You will need to arrange a ride home afterwards. Your dentist will provide you with pre-operation instructions; we strongly recommend you read and understand these before coming in for your surgery appointment, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
